Currently, this chapter has several projects planned.
AIASCV/AIASM Hard Hat Café (Intended to be a series of meetings to follow specific projects through the construction phase from awarding of a contract to granting a certificate of occupancy.)
Door Open AIA 150 Architects (A monthly lunch time visit to Santa Clara Valley architectural firms with PowerPoint presentations of their work.)
A Virtual Podcast- 150 Years of Architecture Foot Tours of Santa Clara Valley (Podcasts of self-guided tours about great architecture found in the Santa Clara Valley, from historic through modern award-winning designs. Tours will provide information from the designers, builders and users.)
AIA 150 Week (Designed to coincide with National Architecture Week, to solicit mayors to dedicate a week to the American Institute of Architects 150 Year Celebration.)
Various other public interest projects.
Architecture 101: Offered to very city in our chapter area as an educational training program for planning and review boards as well as professional planning departments to train non-architects to:
Better understand architectural vocabulary
Read drawings
Gain and understanding of basic design principals
Expect more from design professionals
AIA 150 Week
At the Campbell California City Council Meeting there was a proclamation honoring the architectural profession and declaring April 8-14, 2007, Architecture Week as part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of The American Institute of Architects.
San Jose Declares Architecture Week
On June 19th, the City of San Jose through Mayor Chuck Reed declared the week of June 17th through June 23rd San Jose’s Architecture Week. Accepting the honor on behalf of local architects present, past AIASCV President and fifth generation San Jose resident architect Steve Cox, AIA. Mayor Reed acknowledged that “through their work, American architects have expressed the richness of our nation’s heritage and the vitality of its spirit. They have combined advances in building technology with design innovation to enliven our cities and communities and improve our citizens’ quality of life.” Highlights included a display of the AIASCV Design Award Winner projects at San Jose’s City Hall.
