THE CALIFORNIA ARCHITECTURAL FOUNDATION IS THE LINK BETWEEN THE PROFESSION AND ACADEMIA

The Foundation is the link between the profession and academia. By enhancing the standards of architectural education, training and practice through education and public awareness activities, the Foundation is making a positive difference in people's lives and the built and natural environments that surround them. All programs are funded through donations and contributions from architects, allied professionals, and other benevolent organizations.

CAF leadership is actively engaged in developing a strategic plan to guide them over the next three years. Assisted by A3K Consulting, the strategic planning process has been a tremendous opportunity to engage the design and construction community in discussions that affect the communities where we live, work and play. About the Foundation

William Turnbull Jr., FAIA, Environmental Education Grant

Named in honor of the noted California architect, William Turnbull Jr., FAIA, this grant is designed to support important endeavors by individuals, non-profit organizations, educators and others who have an interest in furthering the general public's understanding about the important and synergistic relationship between the built and natural environment. In 2007, the CAF sponsored an "off grid" ideas competition to further these initiatives.

Information regarding the program is available at caf-e.org. For more information contact Melissa Harper-Barton.

Mel Ferris Scholarship

Through the administration of the Mel Ferris Scholarship, the Foundation has awarded over 108 scholarships (ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 each) since its inception in 1991, to university-level architectural students in California who have needed financial assistance to complete their education. Notices announcing the scholarship process are disseminated to all ten accredited architecture universities in California in January of each year.
